Silver Surfer vs. Thoris a 3-dimentional interpretation of the cover for Silver Surfer #4 (published in 1968, penciled by John Buscema), sculpted by Clayburn Moore.Originally commissioned by a major company (who’s name I’ve elected to leave out), the piece was completed, and then abruptly cancelled.I was asked to make some color adjustments on Thor (originally painted by Paul Moore) and finish out the paint master with the Surfer primarily white, like the comic cover. I tried a non-metallic metal approach (shown above) which ultimately looks good only from one angle.Other finishes were tried, but the classic chrome won out.Sadly, this beautiful piece if work was never produced.
